This study explored how Dark Triad traits—narcissism, psychopathy, and Machiavellianism—relate to counterproductive work behaviors (CWBs), and how power moderates these relationships. These traits are linked to self-serving, manipulative behavior and a lack of empathy. As interest in their workplace impact grows, understanding their influence on CWBs is increasingly relevant. The study hypothesized that power would intensify the link between these traits and CWBs. Specifically, individuals high in narcissism or psychopathy may feel more entitled and less accountable when in power, while Machiavellian individuals might use power strategically for manipulation. Results showed significant positive correlations between all three traits and CWBs. Power strengthened the psychopathy–CWB link, and post hoc analysis revealed that perceived power intensified the relationship between narcissism and interpersonal deviance. These findings offer valuable insight into how organizational power can amplify the negative effects of dark personality traits, with implications for management and efforts to reduce harmful workplace behaviors.
