The central stoneroller (Campostoma anomalum) is found throughout the Midwest and in the Tennessee drainages of the southern Appalachians. I hypothesized that the central stoneroller is engineering habitats by reducing sediment accumulation while feeding. This activity could indirectly affect macroinvertebrate assemblages by altering sediment amounts on substrate in the South Fork of the New River, NC.
