In this study, two groups of second grade children were taught mathematics using traditional mathematics materials and Cuisenaire rods for periods of fifteen weeks. The increases in arithmetic achievement scores were analyzed by the use of chi-square. The .05 level of confidence was used as a basis for rejection of the null hypotheses.
