An electrofishing survey of the headwater regions of the upper Yadkin River yielded 19 species of fishes. Dissolved oxygen concentration, dissolved carbon dioxide concentration, velocity of flow, volume of flow, pH, and bottom type were the abiotic factors measured in the survey. The range of tolerances that various species of fishes had to the factors and the affect these factors had on the distribution of each species was observed and recorded.
