This thesis studies and evaluates the foreign policy of Otto von Bismarck during the Wars of German Unification to determine what effect the doctrine of limited war had upon it. The basic conclusion that can be drawn from this paper is that limited war was a basic component of Bismarck's foreign policy. His diplomatic maneuverings before each of the three wars during the unification period were indicative of this idea.
