Middle level schools have established themselves as a major component of intermediate education in the United States. In spite of this fact, there has been relatively little research conducted concerning early adolescents and their needs in education. This study was conducted to provide a larger data base from which to draw information concerning this age group. The focus of the study was current practices and programs in middle and junior high schools.
